At Cornerstone we help each child by teaching them important life-learning skills. Children are able to learn self-reliance and gain self esteem as they discover how to communicate their feelings and ideas. We want to help your child build self-confidence and a love for learning. We work on self-help as your child learns how to wait for a turn, listening to instructions and following directions. We do this by using positive reinforcement, motivation, and teaching the child individually. This will help child grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
Preschool children need to develop a balance of academic and social skills to prepare them for life's experiences. Each program has separate and distinct activities appropriate for the child's age and developmental level. Our curriculum includes: a balance of reading readiness/phonics, writing & math readiness skills as well as fine and gross motor skills development. We incorporate music, arts, play, sciences, social studies, language enrichment and a daily lesson during our circle time. Each month we focus on a nursery and rhyme. We incorporate field trips and incite visiting professionals to our preschool to enhance our Thematic and Academic Units.
We work on learning to identify upper/lowercase letters and letter sounds. We help children develop language and comprehension skills through activities that teach sequencing, rhyming, classification, same and opposites. Each child will be taught to write their own names all the letters of the alphabet upper/lowercase, short words and numbers one through ten.
Art is an everyday activity. Doing art each day helps encourage creativity. Each project reflect the personality and creativity of each individual child. Art helps the children to develop fine motor skills by cutting, pasting, drawing, coloring, and tracing which are all important skills for pre-writing development and they learn the ability to follow instructions.
The math skills we work on are counting, number recognition, number values, number writing, and simple addition and subtraction skills. Children learn these skills through circle time, games and hands on learning activities.
Our goal is to help build a confident child by providing a happy and secure place for them to learn to build a strong foundation for life.
